Getting Botox in Maryland

Botox has so many incredible purposes that stop the aging process in its tracks: it reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves moderate to severe frown lines, lessens the appearance of jowls, smooths out the neck, and décolletage area, and even can be used to reduce excessive sweating.

With all these unbelievable uses, it’s no wonder this treatment is one of the most popular cosmetic solutions out there to combat dynamic wrinkles.

What Are Dynamic Wrinkles?

You’ve probably noticed that wrinkles appear on your face in many different ways. Some finer lines just seem to appear overnight and stay there. But some – usually the biggest and deepest – are emphasized when you move your face, such as the lines that appear when you frown, the creases on either side of your mouth when you smile, and the crow’s feet that appear when you squint. These are called “dynamic wrinkles” and for many people, they’re a huge source of frustration and self-consciousness.

The problem with dynamic wrinkles is that because they’re caused by moving your face, a lot of people try to minimize them by emoting less. That means holding back smiles, not laughing, not posing for photos, and just basically acting like a robot all the time! No one should be afraid to be themselves, but feel free in their body and able to be as expressive as they want. This treatment is amazing because it can give you that freedom.

How Exactly Does Botox Work?

This treatment utilizes a product called Botulinum toxin, which is injected into the face using a very fine needle. It actually doesn’t target the skin directly but goes past it to the nerves underneath. Once there, the product blocks the nerves from sending signals to the muscles around them and so the muscles cannot contract.

Without overactive facial muscles, the skin on top relaxes and stays smooth, no matter how much you move your face! The result is a gorgeous, more youthful texture free of deep wrinkles. In fact, less muscle activity can even prevent deep wrinkles from forming in the future, so this treatment prevents as well as treats these concerns! Patients love being able to move their faces freely without worrying about the wrinkles that might be appearing.

Combine all this with the fact that Botox is FDA-approved, non-surgical, and often affords results in as little as one session? It’s no wonder this has been the most popular aesthetic treatment in America for over 20 years.

What Is Treatment Like?

Your Consultation

The first step is to come in for a consultation, where you can tell us what your cosmetic goals are and what you’re hoping to get out of treatment. We’ll make sure that this treatment aligns with what you want and if it doesn’t we’ll suggest some alternative treatments more suited to your vision. We’ll also look at your medical history and ensure you’re not on any medication that could interfere with treatment. Once we’ve made sure you’re an ideal candidate, we’ll schedule your session!

Preparing for Treatment

It’s important to avoid alcohol or exercise right before your treatment so that you have a regular blood flow and your face is balanced and not puffy. We’ll ask you to come to your appointment with a clean, makeup-free face. We don’t want anything on your skin that could touch the needle.

Undergoing Treatment

Treatment is performed in-house at our gorgeous facility in Maryland, by either Dr. Ife Rodney or a member of her expert staff. You’ll be comfortably seated in a private room and we may apply a numbing cream to the treatment area. The treatment itself is incredibly quick, as your doctor performs a few small injections. You’re all done in just a matter of minutes!

Is There a Recovery Period?

Amazingly, this treatment requires no downtime. There’s no anesthetic used that could leave you groggy and no need to have a “rest period” as you would with surgery. You can carry on immediately with your day, returning to work or running errands. Patients are even able to drive themselves to and from their session.

How Long Does It Take To See Results and What Will They Look Like?

This fast-working treatment yields results in as little as 72 hours. That’s usually when patients start to notice a difference in their appearance and a reduction in wrinkles. After about two weeks, most patients see the full effects of treatment. The muscles under the skin are fully relaxed, leaving the skin soft, supple, and more youthful-looking.

Since the treatment only affects specific, targeted areas, the rest of the face still moves as normal. This means the results are natural-looking and can be as subtle as the patient would like. We’ll always make sure you don’t come out looking “worked on”, but rather rested and revitalized. Nobody has to know you’ve undergone treatment unless you want to tell them! Importantly, you’ll feel happier and like yourself in your new skin and that confidence is the most gorgeous accessory of all.

How Long Do Results Last?

While the time changes from person to person, this treatment usually lasts for about 4-6 months, though sometimes it can be longer. Since almost all our patients enjoyed their treatment so much, they usually come back for a touch-up session after the effects have worn off! The beauty of the treatment is that it’s so simple and quick that it can slot into a lunch break and then you can carry on with your day. That’s why so many people just add Botox Maryland to their regular beauty routine, scheduling appointments a few times a year.

Is This Treatment Personalised in Any Way?

Here at Eternal Dermatology and Aesthetics, we know no two faces are alike. That’s why we tailor treatment to you. The amount of product used, how many injections are performed, and how many sessions you’ll need are specifically decided on based on your cosmetic concerns and what areas of your face you’re looking to treat. For example, frown lines sometimes require about 8 units of product, while forehead lines may need double that. But exact numbers depend on the individual! We’ll develop your plan after your initial consultation.

What Are Some Good Alternatives to This Treatment?

If you’ve found that this treatment doesn’t directly address your cosmetic concerns, or circumstances have meant that you’re not a suitable candidate for treatment, never fear. Here at Eternal Dermatology and Aesthetics, there are several incredible, effective options that may work for you. Best of all, they’re all non-surgical, so you never have to worry about a recovery period, a risk of infection, or just a general fear of “going under the knife”.

Dermal Fillers

Like Botox, dermal fillers are injected into problematic areas of the face to target wrinkles and fine lines. The difference is they actually add volume to the skin, rather than targeting the muscles or nerves. Chemicals like hyaluronic acid are injected to restore fullness and firmness to wrinkles, which fills out the creases and creates a smooth, even texture.

For this reason, dermal fillers are especially popular as a remedy for sagging skin. They’re very effective on jowls or around the neck and can even be used to reduce wrinkles in your hands!

Laser Skin Treatment

If you’re struggling with scars, age spots, or uneven skin tones, laser skin treatment may be your ideal cosmetic treatment. Lasers are used on your face, their heatwaves penetrating under the skin and healing you via the tissue below the skin. Don’t be worried about the whole “laser” thing, as it’s still an FDA-approved treatment that’s painless!

It’s also still an excellent solution to wrinkles, as the waves stimulate the production of collagen in the body. Collagen is what keeps our skin firm and stops it from sagging, so being able to produce it naturally is great for keeping us looking younger and gorgeous.

Chemical Peels

Or maybe you want to stay away from needles and lasers altogether? A chemical peel may be right for you, as it’s a totally non-invasive treatment. A solution made up of natural acids, enzymes, and other potent and effective ingredients is applied to the face and dissolves the dead skin cells that are making your skin look dull and coarse. It remedies acne, skin discoloration, sun damage, and fine lines, amongst other things.

It’s a great alternative for those who aren’t ready for anything “under the skin” but are still looking for an effective way to revitalize their face.

Microneedling

Like lasers, this treatment is a great way to stimulate the production of collagen. Tiny needles are pressed again your skin, creating tiny, near-invisible tears that your body is triggered to heal with collagen. The healed skin is firmer and more supple, so you look younger without having to have anything put into your skin. It can be used all over the face, including the forehead, neck area, around the mouth, and the cheeks.

Who Is a Suitable Candidate for Treatment?

If you’re over the age of 18 and are struggling with deep, dynamic wrinkles that become more pronounced when you emote, then this treatment may be right for you. These wrinkles can form as early as your twenties, so there are no specific rules about “the right age” to start treatment. The same goes for gender and skin tone because these wrinkles can affect anyone!

If you’re pregnant, on certain medications, or have a medical history that conflicts with getting injections, we may recommend that you don’t undergo this treatment but seek out an alternative. We’ll discuss this more during your consultation.
