But lunchtime isn’t exactly “lunch time” for some people. It’s some personal time to hit the bank, pay some bills, or connect with an old friend. What we’ve noticed is that more and more people take their lunch hour to take care of themselves and their skin. These are quick treatments your dermatologist can handle in time for you to get back into the office. More importantly, these lunchtime cosmetic procedures have long-term benefits for your skin’s health, appearance, and wellbeing. Also, there’s little to no downtime so you can get right back to work. Chemical peels have been around for ages. The process involves a solution of alpha and beta hydroxy acids that are applied to clean skin with a cotton pad or light brush. Deeper peels, however, take much longer as they affect the middle and deeper layers of skin. So for a quick, effective procedure, superficial peels work best. Superficial peels that are commonly performed contain natural alpha-hydroxy acids (AHA), such as lactic, glycolic, and malic and mandelic acids. The peeling solution is applied to clean, dry skin with a brush or sponge, left on to penetrate for about 15 minutes, then removed with water. As the dead skin cells peel away, you see smoother skin that is revitalized and radiant. In addition, the peel stimulates the production of collagen and elastin thus reducing fine lines, acne scars, and skin discoloration.

In darker skin types, we call this “laser hair reduction” as the hair is not permanently gone. We recommend a series of 6 treatments spaced a month apart. With each treatment, the hairs get finer and thinner and grow back more slowly. They may even appear to be completely gone. But over time, (many months or years) tiny hairs may slowly creep back up.
