A recent class-action lawsuit claims that Johnson & Johnson’s OGX haircare line of shampoos and conditioners leads to hair loss. The claim? An ingredient called DMDM hydantoin is behind hair loss.

 

DMDM hydantoin is a common preservative found in skincare and haircare products like shampoos. They are usually found in small amounts in these products to prevent bacterial and fungal growth by releasing trace amounts of formaldehyde.
